Emerging new vocalists have debut singles in charts

Both Jess Glynne and Melissa Steel came to fame recently as vocalists for EDM acts’ singles (namely Clean Bandit and Kove respectively) and now have their debut releases in the UK top 40, showing that going through the pop machine and getting your name and voice out there is a popular route into popular music today.
